¿What to do in Tamarindo and Its Surrondings?

In Tamarindo beach and its surroundings, the visitor can find a broad menu of clean entertainment, fun and adventure options.  From the passionate sport of surfing to simply bathing in the soothing warm clear waters of Tamarindo beach before laying on it´s sands to work up the perfect tan you´ve always wanted.  After that, you can practice kayaking, canoeing, sports fishing, scuba diving, mountain biking or perhaps take a coastal cruise to see the beautiful pacific sunset or take a beach horseback ride.  For the next day you can still visit one of the many Costa Rican national parks and reserves or maybe “go for a spin” to the many colorful towns and art craft sites of Guanacaste.

Like many other portions of the Pacific and Atlantic coasts of Costa Rica, Tamarindo and it´s surrounding beaches have a place in the World Map of Surfing.  In detail, Tamarindo has two point breaks: Pico pequeño or small peak is a coral reef break right in front of Tamarindo beach and El Estero or The Esturary, which is an excellent beach break.

The Hotel El Milagro is really a starting point for any adventure of surfing, either in Tamarindo beach, or in places it very near to the north and south.

One kilometer south of Tamarindo we find Playa Langosta, that has a point break that switches from right to left, making swirls at end right at the outlet of a small river.  Approximately 10 km south the surfer can find another excellent point break:  playa Avellanas.  There you can have fun with a big, concave lefty wave.  Traveling 5 km more to the south you find Playa Negra, one of the best places for surfing in Costa Rica and the world, with exceptionally fast waves.

Like 20 minutes north of Tamarindo you can also find Playa Grande, that has a point break you can access via land.  Following North you can enjoy one of the best places that exist in Costa Rica to surf: a point break mysteriously called Roca Bruja or Witch Rock located in Playa Naranjo in the Santa Rosa National Park.
