How
can I fly to the province of Guanacaste and specifically
to Tamarindo beach?
Our
visitors now have three options to fly to Guanacaste’s
beaches, and specifically to Tamarindo beach:
- First
option is to take a plane that takes you to the
Juan Santamaria International Airport in Alajuela
and from there take a small SANSA (one of the companies
in charge of domestic flights in Costa Rica) plane
to the heart of Tamarindo. This last flight
takes approximately 45 minutes and it’s available
for national and international tourism.
- The
second option is to make a flight connection through
Atlanta International Airport in Georgia, U.S.A.
that will bring you directly to the Daniel Oduber
International Airport in Liberia, Guanacaste. This
option allows you to arrive to your destiny the
same day, with only a short one hour drive from
the airport to the beach. At the Liberian
airport you have many car rental and shuttle choices
available.
- If
you’re already in San Jose, you can take a taxi
cab to the Tobias Bolaños Airport in Pavas and aboard
a small Nature Air flight that will bring you directly
to Tamarindo.
Is
it possible to get to El Milagro directly from the Juan
Santamaria International Airport?
Yes,
and there are three ways you can do this:
- The
first one is to rent a car at a car rental office
of your preference in the airport. There is
a wide variety of rent-a-car agencies in the country,
many of them with world wide prestige. Visitors
can either make car rental arrangements from their
country of origin or ask the hotel to arrange the
rental on their behalf. We advise you to let
us know in advance when you want us to make these
arrangements for you; if you do, we would need your
flight information plus the date and estimated time
of arrival in the country.
- Your
second option is to hire a shuttle or cab service
directly from the airport.
- Or,
your third, is to ask us to make transportation
arrangements for you.
How
do I go from San José to El Milagro?
There
are different ways you can travel from San José to El
Milagro: you can either use the local bus service
from San José to Tamarindo (provided by Empresas Alfaro),
use private shuttle services provided by companies like
Fantasy Tour and Interbus, take a cab, rent a car or
take an airplane flight. All of these options
have their singularities, perks and costs to suit your
preference and budget.
How
do I use the local bus service to travel to El Milagro?
You
can board a bus in San Jose that takes you to Tamarindo.
A bus company called Empresas Alfaro provides
the service and it’s located in southern outskirts of
the San José Downtown area. The buses leave San
José at 10:30 am and 3:30 pm; the trip takes around
6 hours approximately.
What’s
the weather like most of the time in Tamarindo?
There
are two well determined seasons in Guanacaste. The
longest is the dry season, that starts in December and
ends in April. This is considered the busy or
high season for tourism in the area. The other
is the rainy season also known as the low season. It
starts in May and ends in November.
During
the dry season, the temperatures are often above 34
C (93 F) with slender wind conditions. During
the months of December and January the weather tends
to cool off a bit. During the wet or rainy season,
however, the weather can be pleasant for most people;
there is a bright sun shine in the mornings and in the
afternoons there are scattered showers that cool off
the place.
What
type of clothes and equipment should I bring?
We
recommend you to bring hats or baseball hats, sunglasses
and very light beach clothes. Also bring light
cotton long sleeve shirts, boots or sports shoes to
visit parks and natural reserves. It´s always
important to carry bottled water, insect repellents
and sun block lotions. You can buy these products
in San José or Tamarindo. During the wet season,
we recommend you to bring rain coats, umbrellas and
other rain gear.
